What music did you like from the 80's?
I used to listen to tons of "butt rock" or Hard Rock, as most call it. Def Leppard, Scorpions, White Lion, Motley Crue......Tesla. ;D I also liked all of the early 80's stuff.....like REM, Wham! and Ugly Kid Joe.
Another of my favorites was Yngwie Malmsteen. He did some awesome solo guitar stuff. ;D

80s Thrash for me was the best. Metallica, Megadeth (both bands' only good periods), Slayer, Overkill, Testament, Exodus, Annihilator, Forbidden, Sacrifice, Dark Angel, Artillery, Destruction, Kreator, Sodom, Holy Moses, Tankard, Flotsam and Jetsam, Hirax and Protector, among so many more.
The beginnings of Death and Black Metal, with Death, Napalm Death, Carcass, Venom, Sarcofago and Bathory all making good stuff.
Unquestionably, though, the traditional Metal of that time was awesome. Priest, Maiden, Accept, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Omen, Grave Digger, Manowar, Warlock, Dio and Virgin Steele, and then the final remnants of the NWoBHM with Grim Reaper, Jaguar, Tygers of Pan Tang, Holocaust, Holy Mother and Cloven Hoof, just awesome stuff no matter how you slice it.
